The first season of HBO’s newest series, based on George R. R. Martin’s books “Fire and Blood” and a spin-off to the Game of Thrones series, House of The Dragon, has just ended. The story is set about 172 years before the reign of our favourite queen Daenerys Stormborn of House Targaryen, it is set in Westeros and it talks about the Dance of the Dragons, the civil war between the Greens and the Blacks, between king Aegon II and Rhaenyra, rightful and designed heir to the Ironthrone.
The series has already broken records for views from the very first episode, more than 10 million views, making it the most-viewed premiere in HBO’s History.
The last episode ended (SPOILER ALERT!!!!) with the accidental death of prince Lucerys Velaryon, killed/eaten by prince Aemond’s Dragon, Vhagar, who was pretty famous for being involved in War Crimes, this will cause absolute and pure rage in the Black Queen, Rhaenyra, who will then declare war to Queen Alicent Hightower, and it will inevitably lead to the real Dance of the Dragons. The show has mostly been true to the books so far, even though we haven’t seen anything apart from the presentation of the different characters, and the different divisions that will take place during the war. But from the second season, we will see what an enraged and mourning mother can do to avenge their innocent child, eaten alive by his own uncle’s dragon.
The characters are portrayed by brilliant actors, such as Paddy Considine, who plays King Viserys, Milly Alcock and Emily Carey, who portray the young versions of our queens Rhaenyra and Alicent, there is also the handsome Matt Smith, who plays Prince Daemon and last but not least we have the dazzling Emma D’Arcy who portrays the adult Rhaenyra and the amazing Olivia Cooke who plays the adult Alicent Hightower.
The viewers’ final reviews are quite conflicting, some declare that it is “a high-budget glorified soap opera”, while others think that it is a really promising series, that has set the ground for a majestic and intense second season.
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see!
